In the context of energy transition, EDF has defined a strategy called CAP 2030, which drives the Group’s ambition : to be the efficient and responsible electrician, champion of low carbon growth. This strategy focuses on three main areas: increasing proximity with our customers, doubling the production of renewable energies by 2030 and tripling the share of international business by 2030. As such, the EDF group through its International Division has decided to decline an off-grid strategy in Africa within the Africa, Middle East and Eastern Mediterranean Division. Through partnerships with innovative start-ups, the EDF Group aims to supply hundreds of thousands of African households. Since November 2016, its off-grid department has been marketing, maintaining and facilitating the payment of solar home systems in Africa (Ivory Coast and Ghana under the ZOLA brand) in partnership with the American start-up ZOLA Electric. In the solar home systems business line, the department is also in partnership with the English start-up BBOXX in Togo. Futhermore, since July 2018, the department is deploying an off-grid offer in Africa on agricultural solar pumps in partnership with a Kenyan start-up company SunCulture and studying several models of mini-grids. EDF is constantly ensuring that its kit offers are accessible to rural or peri-urban populations and to emerging middle classes.
